Teaser Tuesday is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.
- Grab your current read.
- Let the book fall open to a random page.
- Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page.
- You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
“If I had been told that the last of my infatuations would be with a girl with provocative manners and cathouse connections (a cathouse – you know, a home for cats), I would have supposed I was determined to suffer one of those derided deaths in which the patron of the house of ill repute has a heart attack in media res and his corpse has to be hastily dressed and smuggled out and dumped in an alley. But no, if the new dream is to be trusted it will not be like that.”
from Diary of a Bad Year by JM Coetzee (p54)

I recently read Disgrace by Coetzee, and I wasn’t too sure of it. I mean, I got it, I got the analogy between the events that were happening to his daughter and the protagonist’s hypocrisy, the effect of his ageing on the viewing of his behaviour, etc. etc. But, I don’t know, I just couldn’t really bring myself to care about the supposed `plight’ of this middle-aged white guy. I should read some of his other books before I decide against him, though. Is Diary of a Bad Year any good?

Short answer – no.
Too little of everything, I think. I’ll be posting a review shortly, hopefully.
